New Year Resolutions...

New Year Resolutions...

In this vast existence, there is no such thing as “Old Year” and “New Year”. These are all demarcations that we as human beings have made. Why we have made these demarcations is because we need some measure to our life, some guide, some milestone to tell us whether we are going forward or backward. Now I am this many years old – have I moved forward, have I moved backward? So now this is once again a new year ......2022, this is time for you to measure, in the last one year have you moved forward as a human being? May be your business has gone forward, may be you made more money, you got your daughter married – that’s not the issue. Have you become a little better human being in one year’s time? So for the coming year, for the New Year what are you going to do? You make up your mind, what you are going to do. Some marker to tell you that in one year’s time you will be a much better human being than you are right now. More joyful, more peaceful, more loving – a better human being in every possible way. This is something that you have to decide.

If you feel the world around you – when saying about "the world", it means the human part of the world around us - around you – you will see your experience is a cacophony of voices, thoughts and emotions. These voices, thoughts and emotions are all an outpouring of confusions of many different levels and states. With a very distorted perception of the current reality, these voices, thoughts and emotions are formed and expressed. When man is in this level of confusion, when he is subjugated by the misconceptions of reality around him, the pain and suffering that he creates for himself and the people around him is very unfortunate.

We are always trying to create our life based on the current reality that exists around us at this moment. This moment whatever may be with us is not the point. Where we want to go tomorrow need not be connected to where we are right now. What we want as the highest in life, it need not have anything to do with our present situation. If we enslave our visions to current situations, then it is once again settling for what is attainable, what is easy, what you think is possible. It is not in terms of thinking what is possible or not possible. It is just in terms of seeing what is your vision, what is the highest that you can seek in your life.

If man has a vision of what he wishes to do with himself and the world around him, it is not beyond his capacity to create it. It may happen in this lifetime, it may take a couple of lifetimes but what we want will definitely come. For that person, for whom his vision of life is clear to him and he just seeks it every moment of his life, the highest things will come and fall at his feet. It is only because man is a bundle of confusion, it is only because man is most of the time seeking what he doesn’t want – things that he really wants never come to him. This lack of vision and will in his life is fundamentally because of a distorted understanding of the world around us.

What you know as the highest, you just seek that. It doesn’t matter whether it is going to happen or not, simply living with that vision itself is very elevating, is itself very liberating, is itself a very joyous process for any person. Whether it is going to happen tomorrow or after hundred years is not the point. But you have a vision and you are not concerned about whether it is possible or not possible. You are not concerned whether it is easy or difficult, you are not concerned whether it is attainable or non-attainable, or in other words, you are not concerned about the result in the end. It is just that you have a vision and you give your life towards it. This is one of the easiest ways to attain the highest also – to simply give yourself to what you want, not caring whether it is going to happen or not. It is a spiritual process by itself.

Vision is an important way of transcending limitations within and outside ourselves. If one wants to live here without being burdened by vision, without being burdened by will, then that person should be absolutely innocent. Such a person can simply live here – he does not need any vision. He does not have to have a will about anything, if he is absolutely egoless and childlike. If it is not so, it is very important that man lives with a vision.

It is time to really create a vision within ourselves as to what we really care for, not just for today. If you look deep enough, your vision will be the universal vision. Whether everything else happens or doesn’t happen on the way is not the point – whatever you have known as the highest, simply seeking that with undivided attention. That is a simple way of knowing life here and beyond.

Let Us Have A Party......

In the nearly 200 different world languages, each one of them finds a way to say, "I love you!"
  • ARABIC — أنا أحبك!
  • CHINESE — 我爱你
  • FRENCH — Je t'aime!
  • GERMAN — Ich liebe dich!
  • Greek — Σ 'αγαπώ!
  • HEBREW — אני אוהב אותך!
  • Japanese — 私はあなたを愛して!
  • Spanish — ¡Te quiero!
No matter the way "I love you" is written or spoken in another language, the meaning is the same: "I care. I value you. I appreciate you. I desire you."

We can express our "I love you!" with a kiss or a hug. We can demonstrate our "I love you!" by holding hands, by sending flowers, or by being gentle. "I love you" is said at the end of phone conversations, written in cards or letters, before someone departs, when we wake up or getting ready to go to sleep.

There are many different types of love:
  • Puppy love is a temporary crush we have for someone.
  • Romantic love demonstrates passion, attraction, and caring for your partner.
  • Unconditional love says. "I love you" no matter what. No strings attached.
  • Brotherly love demonstrates our love for our community and neighbors because they are like a family.
  • Tough love says to someone doing wrong: "I am taking this action only because it will help you and because 'I love you.'"
Of all the types of love, God's love is the most amazing and sustaining. No matter what we do, say, or think, God loves us. No matter how we treat one another or even Him, He still loves us. God loves us for who we are. He created us.
It is true that God always wants all of us to put our BEST foot forward as we seek to reflect His glory and His grace. God wants us to study Scripture, tell the truth, be godly, act right, be honest, and love people unconditionally. Yet, when we are not at our BEST, He is and will always be at his best!
God says, "I love you!" by redeeming us. Redeeming means freeing someone from a burden. So often, our burden is sin! So, God took extreme measures to redeem us by giving us His son Jesus:
For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son...

God says, "I love you!"
King David said it this way:
God is sheer mercy and grace; not easily angered, he's rich in love. He doesn't endlessly nag and scold, nor hold grudges forever. He doesn't treat us as our sins deserve, nor pay us back in full for our wrongs
The beloved disciple, John, reminded us:
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats. Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way ...

While God is in the redeeming business, he is also in the business of removing our sins from His memory bank, too:

God also says, "I love you!" by the sunsets and sunrises, by the crashing waves of the ocean, by the snow-capped mountains, by the blooming of the flowers, and the budding of the trees.
God says, "I love you!" in every language and in every moment of life!
Most of all, God has said "I love you!" in the gift of His Son, Jesus, through whom He redeemed us and bought us back as His own!

Happy Dussehra......

Ayudha Pooja - Its Significance

DUSSEHRA

Victory of Durga Mata over Mahishasura

The name Dussehra is also derived from Sanskrit Dasha + Ahaha = Dasharahaha = Dasharaha. Ahaha means day. Example Aharnisha is derived from Ahaha+nisha. Goddess fought with evils for 9 nights and 10 days. The name Vijayadashami is also derived from the Sanskrit words "Vijaya-dashami" literally meaning the victory on the dashami (Dashmi being the tenth lunar day of the Hindu calendar month). Diwali the festival of lights is celebrated twenty days after Dasara.
Some of the demons, or Asuras, were very powerful and ambitious and continually tried to defeat the Devas, or Gods, and capture Heaven. One Asura, Mahishasura, in the form of a buffalo, grew very powerful and created havoc on the earth. Under his leadership, the Asuras defeated the Devas. The world was crushed under Mahishasura's tyranny, the Devas joined their energies into Shakti, a single mass of incandescent energy, to kill Mahishasur.

A very powerful band of lightning emerged from the mouths of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva and a young, beautiful female virgin with ten hands appeared. All the Gods gave their special weapons to her. This Shakti coalesced to form the goddess Durga. Riding on a lion, who assisted her, Durga fought Mahishasura. The battle raged for nine days and nights. Finally on the tenth day of Ashvin shukla paksha, Mahishasura was defeated and killed by Durga.

Hence Dasha-Hara is also known as Navratri or Durgotsav and is a celebration of Durga's victory. Durga, as Consort of Lord Shiva, represents two forms of female energy – one mild and protective and the other fierce and destructive.

Navaratri, culminating with Dussehra, is a cultural festival of great importance and significance for all. It is a festival that is all about the goddess. In Karnataka, Dussehra is about Chamundi, in Bengal it is about Durga. Like this, it is about various goddesses in different places, but essentially it is about the feminine goddess or the feminine divinity.

Dussehra – The tenth day of celebration

Navaratri is replete with symbolism about vanquishing evil and wanton nature, and about having reverence for all aspects of life and even for the things and objects that contribute to our well being. The nine days of Navaratri are classified as per the three basic qualities of tamas, rajas and sattva. The first three days are tamas, where the goddess is fierce, like Durga and Kali. The next three days are rajas - Lakshmi related – gentle but materially oriented goddesses. The last three days are dedicated to Saraswati, which is sattva. It is related to knowledge and enlightenment.

Vijayadashami – The Day of Victory

Investing in these three will make our life in a certain way. If we invest in tamas, we will be powerful in one way. If we invest in rajas, we will be powerful in a different way. If we invest in sattva, we will be powerful in a completely different way. But if we go beyond all these, it is no longer about power, it is about only and only liberation. After Navaratri, the tenth and final day is Vijayadashami – that means we have conquered all these three qualities. We did not give into any of them, we saw through every one of them. We participated in every one of them, but we did not invest in any one of them. And we won over them. That is Vijayadashami, the day of victory. This brings home the message of how being in reverence and gratitude towards everything that matters in our lives leads to success and victory.

Dussehra – Devotion and Reverence

Of the many things that we are in touch with, of the many things that contribute in making and creating our lives, the most important devices that we employ in making a success of our lives are our own body and mind. Being in reverence towards the very earth that we walk upon, towards the air that we breathe, the water that we drink, the food that we eat, the people that we come in touch with and everything else that we use, including our body and mind, will lead us to a different possibility as to how we can live. Being in a state of reverence and devotion towards all these aspects is a way of ensuring success in every endeavor that we partake in.

Celebrate Dussehra With Joy & Love

Traditionally, in Indian culture, Dussehra was always full of dances, where the whole community mixed, met and mingled. But because of external influences and invasions over the past two hundred years, we have lost that today. Otherwise Dussehra was always very vibrant. Even now it is still so in many places, but it is being lost in the rest of the country. We have to bring it back. The Vijayadashami or Dussehra festival is of a tremendous cultural significance for all who live in this land – irrespective of their caste, creed or religion – and should be celebrated with gaiety and love.

SHUBH VIJAYA DASHAMI

Vijayadashami also known as Dussehra or Dashain or Tenth day of Navratri or Durgotsav is one of the most important Hindu festivals celebrated in various forms, across Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. The name Dussehra is derived from Sanskrit Dasha-hara literally means The sun will not rise (Dasha (sun) and Hara (defeat)) referring to Lord Rama's victory over the ten-headed demon king Ravana.
As per Hindu religion, on this day in the Treta Yug, King Rama, also called Shri Ram, the seventh avatar of Vishnu, killed Ravana who had abducted Rama's wife Sita to his kingdom of Lanka. Rama, his brother Lakshmana, their follower Hanuman and an army of monkeys fought a great battle to rescue Sita. The entire narrative is recorded in the epic Ramayana, a Hindu scripture.

Rama had performed "Chandi Homa" and invoked the blessings of Durga, who blessed Rama with secret knowledge of the way to kill Ravana. On the day of Ashvin Shukla Dashami, Rama's party found Sita and defeated Ravana. Thus it is termed as Vijaya Dashami. Based on the inferences from Valmiki’s Ramayana, Kalidas’s Raghuvans, Tulsidas’s Ram Charit Manas, and Keshavdas's Ram Chandra Yas Chandrika as well as common perception in India, Rama, Sita, and of Lakshmana returned to Ayodhya on the 30th day of Ashvin (19–20 days after Vijayadashmi). To mark the return of Lord Rama, in the evening, the residents of Ayodhya lit their city with millions of earthen lamps (called Deepak). Since then, this day is celebrated in India as Deepawali or Diwali.

Many people perform "Aditya Homa" as a "Shanti Yagna" and recite Sundara Kanda of Srimad Ramayana for 5 days. These Yagna performances are thought to create powerful agents in the atmosphere surrounding the house that will keep the household environment clean and healthy.
These rituals are intended to rid the household of the ten bad qualities, which are represented by 10 heads of Ravana as follows:
  • Kama vasana (Lust)
  • Krodha (Anger)
  • Moha (Attachment)
  • Lobha (Greed)
  • Mada (Over Pride)
  • Matsara (Jealousy)
  • Swartha (Selfishness)
  • Anyaaya (Injustice)
  • Amanavta (Cruelty)
  • Ahankara (Ego).
