How to Respond to Evil with Good…

How to Respond to Evil with Good…

This post is based on some words about Buddha that I came across a while ago. These words tell us how to respond to evil with good

Buddha was well known for his ability to respond to evil with good.
There was a man that knew about this reputation
and he travelled miles and miles to test Buddha.
When he got in Buddha’s presence he verbally abused him,
he insulted and offended him.
- Buddha was unmoved.
He simply turned to the man and said: “May I ask you a question?”
The man agreed and said: “Well what?”
Buddha continued: “When someone offers you a gift and you decline to accept it,
to whom then does it belong?”
The man replied: “Well then it belongs to the person who offered it.”
Buddha smiled: “That is correct.”
And then he said: “So if I decline to accept your abuse,
does it not then still belong to you?”
The man was speechless and left…

Beyond judgements of Evil vs. Good

Looking from a non-dualistic view it might come in place to first explain how I don´t see “Evil” and “Good” as two contrasting or opposite powers. The way I see it; What we call, Evil is actions coming from lower vibrations born in a conscious or subconscious choice of ignorance. This low level of vibration needs force to keep on going… and this forced energy becomes a self draining loop – in pure lack of higher “empowering” energy.

The higher vibrational energy, that here is referred to as Good is the natural flowing state born in integrity – a non-judgemental, non-attached state of unconditional love. This state unfolds by itself as soon as we release and surrender the forced and blocked states of ignorance.

When we meet lower vibrations, the mind, the emotions, the body and the ego unconsciously seek resonance with these levels. In these moments we have the option to make a choice not to join the “attraction” of the lower level – but to stay in the field of the pure power.

A lower level of vibration can only find its entrance where we choose to leave the field of the pure vibration. To stay in a non-judgemental, non-attached and loving place – is an active choice. It is a way of Being in the world.

Evil can never cease to exist in the presence of devoted kindness and flowing love. It can only exist in where there is a lack of integrity… and higher vibrations.

Take some time to reflect:

  • Is it important to be right or to judge?
  • Is it important to defend or justify myself?
  • Is it important to convince or change the other person?
  • Is it important to reach a certain outcome?
As long as we believe that any of these questions are important, we are still trapped in the Ego, and the lower vibrations of ignorance.
