Wife gives timely gift after husband’s untimely deathSource : Times of IndiaSesha Rao was all ears as hospital staff discussed the awareness event held to mark World Organ Donation Day on Tuesday. Sesha’s husband Chandrashekhar was critically ill after being severely injured in a road accident. It was only co-incidence that on hearing about the benefits of organ donation, Sesha got the dreaded newsthather husband had become brain dead. Sesha consulted her family and decided that her husband would the gift life to ailing people in death. “The wife’s decision to donateher husband’sorgans gave impetus to the organ donation drive held at the hospital where a big number of staff and peoplefrom thetown signed pledge formsfor organ donation,” said Col T S Handa, head of Zydus Hospital, Anand. In Ahmedabad, there was overwhelming response to the awareness drive organized by The Times of India through its ILeadIndia campaign on organ donation. Pledges for organ donation were taken by a big number of employees of HCG Hospital, Sterling Hospital and SAL Hospital where doctors created awareness on the issue and reiteratedthat people needtobust myths and come forward to dedicating themselves to helping humansin medicaldistress. Employees of Gujarat InternationalFinancialTec-city (GIFT) too supported the cause. In LD College of Engineering, Silver Oak Engineering College, Alpa Engineering College, Universal Engineering College, Ahmedabad Dental College, Nirma University, HA Commerce College, BJ Medical College, NHL Municipal Medical College and Gujarat Cancer Society Medical College awareness drives for organ donation were held. Students signed pledgeformscommitting themselves in large numbers. In Nadiad, Dilip Gosai, of Charusat University’s Indukaka Ipcowala Institute said that a special drive for sign-ups for organ donation wascarriedout. Students turned up in big numbers here. Similarly at J and J Science College, the managementorganized a sign-up drive. In Surat Savji Dholakia, owner of diamond unit Harekrishna Exports mobilized a drive signing up hundreds of employees at three units. The Surat Diamond Association (SDA) too joined the drive. In Vadodara, from Kamatibaug morning walkers association, organizations like Friends of Israel, corporates like Prakash Chemicals to institutions like Parul institute had held special signing drives.
