10 Things Lord Shiva Teaches Us :
1. Lord Shiva
Divine form of Lord Shiva is always awe inspiring and
comforting to look at. Looking at the benign and majestic form of the
Lord, we gain confidence and feel our worries are removed. In fact, More
than inspiring devotion, Lord Shiva's form can also open up our eyes
regarding some important aspects of our health.
2. Matted Hair: Unity of Thought, Word and Deed
Shiva has a beautiful matted hair. Winding together the free
flowing strands of hair into a harmonious bundle in which all of them
coexist peacefully. It enjoins us to maintain the harmony of thought,
word and deed, which is key to achieving health and happiness. We must
say what we think and we must do what we say. Then you shall be peaceful
and shall not have heart diseases, irritability, acidity and head
aches.
3. Third Eye: Futuristic Vision
Third eye of Lord Shiva corresponds to futuristic vision
which is very essential to maintain a good health. If you always try to
foresee the consequences of your actions, then you shall take more
cautious steps in life. Apply your thought and desist from harmful
practices and eating habits that shall harm your health.
4. Trident: Self Control
Trident indicates the power of control over your body, mind
and ego through the use of intellect. Apply your wisdom and check what
you think and what you do and what you feel. Once you regulate these
propensities and guide them to do what is right, then you can achieve
your health goals easily. If you decide something is right, then do it
and if you know something is wrong, desist from it. Then you are the
happiest and healthiest one.
5. Contemplative Posture: Spend sometime for yourself
In our busy life, we hardly remember ourselves. We get lost
in the work we do and moving with others. Only when we do some
introspection everyday at least for sometime sitting alone, we shall
know what we are doing is right or wrong. This shall help us stay well
informed of our own behaviour and actions. Meditation helps avoid
gastric as well as heart problems.
6. Holy Ash: Forget and forgive
All our ill tempers are due to jealousy and hatred. The holy
ash reminds us that everything in life is temporary and are bound to
vanish at some point. Therefore, there is no reason for us to feel
jealousy or hatred that kills our peace of mind. Let us leave things
happen as they do and do our best to play our part whether it is with
people or experiences of life. This positive attitude shall help us
remedy a lot of discomforts and illnesses in our body.
7. Blue Neck: Control you anger
Lord Shiva swallowed the poison to save the worlds from its
deadly invasion. He always keeps it stored in his throat neither letting
outside or inside himself. Thus, we need to check our anger.
Suppressing anger shall create anxiety, stress and depression.
Expressing it shall make us tensed up and uncontrollable. Therefore,
keeping it under control through enough forethought shall help us stay
free of asthma, acidity, angina and other illnesses.
8. Dhamru: Control over desires
Every physical or mental discomfort starts from a sense of
discontent. The dhamru or the drum reminds us to shed the unwanted
desires and keep our mind free and unpolluted. This shall give way to
moderation in eating, avoiding junk food, avoiding ill-temper and
anxious state of mind and so on thereby ensuring a proper health and
peace of mind.
9. Ganga: Purge Your body and mind
Maintaining the cleanliness of the body and mind is the key
to lasting health. Ganges is the symbol of purity. It tells us to
observe fasting to clean up our digestive system; maintain clean habits
to keep our body free of pollutants, do pranayama (breathing exercise)
to clean up our lungs, physical workouts to clean up our skin and
muscles and engage in chanting divine name to keep our mind clean.
10. Snakes: Stay cool
Snakes coil around Shiva's neck and remain there in peace.
Once we leave our ill temper and ensure a balanced state of mind, we can
avoid dissensions with ourself as well as with others. Such a state of
peaceful mind shall keep you free from hypertension and cardiovascular
diseases.
11. Closed Eyes: Keep away from evil and bad
Often the life is highly distracting. We wish to pursue what
we see and are attracted to go behind bad and unhealthy things in life.
Whether it is temptations to eat unhealthy food or indulge in harmful
habits, we do a host of things in life that are not healthy practices
for the mind and the body. Closed eyes of Shiva tell us keep away from
bad things of life and engage in right actions and right thoughts. This
is a key to perfect health.
