INSIGHT – The DNA of Success
“INSIGHT – The DNA of Success” brought
together over 200 heads of organizations from all over India, and
countries such as Singapore, Dubai, the UK, Germany and Switzerland.
This unique leadership program, offered by Isha Foundation’s Isha
Education initiative, provides business leaders with practical takeaways
that multiply capability to manage both external situations and inner
growth. Key resource persons, globally respected business leaders
Narayana Murthy and Ronnie Screwvala, were joined by Dr. Dipak C Jain,
former dean of Kellogg School of Management as faculty chair, and B.S.
Nagesh, Non-Executive Vice Chairman, Shoppers Stop Limited, as
facilitator. Inspirational business persons from a wide range of
industries, such as manufacturing, construction, service, education,
media and healthcare, served as resource leaders.
Day 1 – Dr. Dipak Jain, Ronnie Screwvala, Sadhguru
At the start of Day 1, Nov 26th, Dr. Dipak
C. Jain spoke on today’s well-informed and demanding consumer; with
competition increasing both locally and globally, he noted, the way to
building business success is to innovate and create value for the
customer.
Media and entertainment wizard Ronnie
Screwvala, in a Q&A session with Luis Miranda, elaborated on the art
of getting the best people to work with him – hiring not just the best
talent, but the talent which was the right fit for his corporate
culture. Later, in conversation with Sadhguru, Mr. Screwvala spoke of
how his failures were his best motivators and learning experiences,
stating that if an organization was not failing somewhere, it was not
experimenting enough. “Failure is never a full stop,” Mr. Screwvala
said, “It’s just a comma.”
Throughout the INSIGHT program, the
“external management” aspects are balanced by the “inner management”
technologies offered by Sadhguru. Sadhguru urged participants to live
consciously, with full awareness. Only when one was free of the fear of
failure, he said, would one be able to walk in full stride, fulfilling
one’s true potential. He also spoke of the role of yoga and food in the
process of managing oneself: the participants were also initiated into simple yogic techniques that bring health, vibrancy and a sense of wholeness to the body, mind, emotion and energies.
Renowned cardiac surgeon, Dr.Devi Shetty,
also spoke in the evening through telecon, about the journey of Narayana
Hrudayalaya, the chain of multispecialty hospitals he established
across India.
Day 2 – Narayana Murthy
Narayana Murthy, co-founder of Infosys,
was the key resource leader on Day 2. Mr. Murthy began by emphasizing
the importance of entrepreneurship in India, and mentioned that it is a
great privilege to be in the company of the 200 entrepreneurs
participating in the INSIGHT program. Building businesses and creating
jobs, he stated, is important for the people of India to find gainful
employment and keep body and soul together, before evolving towards a
greater possibility.
Mr. Murthy also looked at the many
experiences throughout his life that shaped his ideas of how to run a
company. From his parents to the headmaster at his high school, and
later in his life, each experience played a role in making Mr. Murthy
what he is today, and also reflects in the culture at Infosys. For
example, answering a question on why he gives large stock options, he
explained, “I’m building this company not to become rich, but to enjoy
the journey.”
Day 3, 4 – Taking Stock & Farewell
Day 3 included a look back at the first
two days, panel discussions between key resource leaders, and a Q&A
between participants and Sadhguru and Dr. Dipak Jain on what everyone
had learnt from the sessions of the past two days. Day 4 saw the Isha
Insight participants taking a walk with Sadhguru to bring the year’s
program to an end.
